Arc Flash Hazard Analysis

Arc-flash hazard analysis combines the information available from short circuit and protective device coordination studies in order to optimize relay performance and create a safer, more reliable power system.

MEC's field engineers conduct flash hazard analyses according to current CSA, IEEE, and NFPA standards to establish:

  • Appropriate safety-related work practices
  • Proper personal protective equipment (PPE), based on the incident energy present at the working distance for the task to be performed
  • Arc flash protection boundary

How often should MEC conduct an arc flash
hazard analysis of your facility?

The analysis shall be updated when a major modification or renovation takes place.
It shall be reviewed periodically, not to exceed five years...
